When looking to hire a web design company to either create a website from scratch or to fix up an existing site that you may have, it is important to find a reputable one who isn’t going to disappear a year down the track. You want to hire a web design company that is reliable, professional, has a good track record and, most importantly, is going to give you the website that you want. But how do you find one?
First, do your research. Use a search engine to look for web design companies in your area. Ask people you know who have websites what their experience was like with their design company. As well as giving you an idea of who to ask, speaking to people will also give you a fairly good idea of who to steer clear from. Don’t pursue companies that are from out of the country or even interstate – if you have to go in for a meeting at some stage, the distance makes the whole process difficult.
Have a proper look at all of the websites of the web design companies you are interested in. Do they look professional? Can you find all of the information you need quickly and easily? Take a look at their portfolio of current and past projects – does this look like the kind of work you are after? If the company does not have a list of their current clients or a portfolio, they are probably not very reputable and you should keep looking.
Once you have narrowed your options down to a few web design companies whose work you are impressed with, initiate contact with either a phone call or an email. Judge how long it takes for them to get back to you – for a new client they should be doing this pretty quickly. Is the reply that you receive helpful and was the representative able to answer any questions that you had? If the answer is no, keep looking.
The next step is to request a written proposal of what the company intends to do for your website. It is best to get proposals from a few companies so that you can compare them. A reputable web design company will supply you with a proposal that is detailed, includes specifics such as cost, terms and a timeline of completion and will most likely require a signature. Look at the packages being offered by each web design company and decide on which one best suits your needs.
And the final thing you should do when looking for a reputable web design company is find out how to make changes to your website once it is live. Most companies will supply you with an easy to use content management system (CMS) that will enable you to do this. If you have to learn HTML or get the web design team to make changes for you, continue looking elsewhere.
