Small business owners have a tough life. Never enough cash for a high-end SEO campaign, small business owners have always had to perform some tasks themselves. In this article, I'll show you a few simple tasks you can do to make your website rank higher in Google, Yahoo, and Bing. This is not a technical SEO How-To, just a few simple things you can do, right now, to help your website rank AND CONVERT better!

1) Make Your Website Easy To Read

You know what I mean! All these flashing lights, tons of colored fonts and banners makes your customer have to search for the information they want. Do not make it difficult! Limit your use of attention grabbers. Use a very easy to read Font like Helvetica, Myriad Pro and Trebuchet Ms.

2) Simplify Your Sales Script

Very few customers want to read everything about your business. Great Content Writers agree: Cut the word count in half. Then cut it in half again. A very concise, well written 300 word page is MUCH more effective than a 2000 word whitepaper on the technical merits of your offering. Those longer pages should be kept in the "research" section and be linked to from your sales page. The mission of the sales page is to convince the customer to buy, not to confuse.

3) Add Pictures

"A picture is worth a 1000 words". We've all heard the saying and it is so true. Adding a picture of your product or your employees performing the service is a great way to positively impact both your ranking and your conversion rate.

EXTRA CREDIT: If you can figure out how, adding "ALT TEXT" to each picture works wonders to drive extra traffic to your page. On WordPress sites, when you upload the picture it gives you the ability to add "Caption" and "ALT TAG".

For other Content Management Systems (CMS) the process is similar.

4) Add A Social Media Plugin

Over the last 10 years, social media has EXPLODED! IF you are not using Social Media to attract more customers, you are really missing the boat! Instead of sending postcards to each prospect (cost: about $ 1.00 / prospect / mailing) you could attract prospects through social media sites like Google+, Facebook, Twitter, and others.

Once you get "liked", your messages will be flashed on their feeds automatically FOR NOTHING. That's right, free advertising!

For WordPress sites, I like to use Skysa. Its a free install and is super easy to configure, even for my mother.

Whatever you use, dedicate the first hour of your morning to social media. Find a story or write an update on your Facebook, Google+ and Twitter accounts and send. This keeps you "top of mind" and they will think of you often.

5) Blogging

I know what you're thinking. "I do not have time to write articles!" Well, neither do I! But I find writing at least 1 article per week and posting it to your blog provides a steady trickle of additional traffic you would not have had otherwise. In addition, your posts will cement your standing to your existing customers. Remember, you can not just sell your customer once. You must continue to sell them and remind them why you are their best choice.

While a post and pictures of your product in action or a successfully completed project are gold, every now and then a "Why I like Pickles" post can lighten the mood of your customers and help cement you in their memory banks.

I admit, I could have gone on with 100 more tricks for you to use to help rank your website in Google, Yahoo and Bing.

But I know you're much to busy to concentrate on all that technical mumbo-jumbo. By following the SEO Tricks above, your website will rank better in the search engines, convert more prospects into clients and make you more money!
